Buddha Mantras

The Goddess Tara - Mother of Buddhas - can appear in many forms. Green Tara is often depicted surrounded by her 21 Emanations, each presenting a slightly different color, quality, and power. The 5th Tara, Kurukulla, is red and charismatic, alternately fierce and joyful. Call upon her when you need to feel empowered and balanced in relationship - both with yourself and others. This mantra is in the Tibetan language, from the Nyingma tradition. Listening to or chanting it can help you to discover that this Tara's fierce joy, and ability to act compassionately even in difficult circumstances, are attributes that you yourself possess. Om Tare Tuttare Ture Kurukulla Nrija Swaha (In this video, this mantra is chanted 39 times. A mala - a set of beads for counting mantra repetitions - has 108 beads. Three repetitions of this video is the equivalent of completing a whole mala, plus nine). This mantra is taken from the book Embodying Tara: Twenty-one Manifestations to Awaken Your Innate Wisdom by Chandra Easton, Shambala Press, 2022.

Amitabha is "the Buddha of Infinite Light." The red seed syllable HRIH emanates from his heart. Amitabha's superpower is to transform desire and anger to compassion and discerning wisdom. This depiction of Buddha Amitabha is a detail at the top of a large thangka of the 21 Taras, found at Wonderwell Mountain Refuge in Springfield, NH, USA (https://naturaldharma.org). The embroidered mantra hanging was purchased at Gar Drolma Buddhist Learning and Meditation Center in Dayton, OH, USA (https://gardrolma.org). The sunrise was filmed over the Atlantic Ocean from Ogunquit Beach, ME, USA, on March 12, 2025. The birds are the gulls and piping plovers who breakfast there in the early mornings. This mantra video was inspired by a Buddha Amitabha initiation performed by Lodrö Tulku Rinpoche on April 5, 2025 from Ganden Chokhör in Switzerland (https://ganden.ch). Sending gratitude for the inspiration to Rachael Wooten (author of Tara: The Liberating Power of the Female Buddha) (https://rachaelwootenauthor.com)
